諾貝爾化學(xué)獎(jiǎng)得主:異想天開很重要
????作為一個(gè)化學(xué)家,您還學(xué)到了什么? ????我從化學(xué)學(xué)到的一件事就是:事物是復(fù)雜的,必須接受這種復(fù)雜性,。即使我的大腦喜歡簡(jiǎn)明,想要把事情區(qū)分為非黑即白,。但現(xiàn)實(shí)世界是復(fù)雜的,,問(wèn)題的答案,特別是社會(huì)問(wèn)題,,從來(lái)不會(huì)很簡(jiǎn)單?,F(xiàn)在是大選年,不管哪個(gè)政黨,,他們的競(jìng)選廣告總是想要把復(fù)雜的世界簡(jiǎn)單化,。 ????但我認(rèn)為我們必須避免過(guò)度簡(jiǎn)化:人類行為、政治解決方案,、社會(huì)系統(tǒng)都如此,。化學(xué)讓我對(duì)此保持著清醒的頭腦,,因?yàn)樵诨瘜W(xué)的世界里,,我們需要復(fù)雜。我們?yōu)楹涡枰?,000萬(wàn)個(gè)分子,?因?yàn)槿梭w是復(fù)雜的,,含有92種元素,,非常美妙,。但元素并不重要,重要的是從元素中能構(gòu)建出什么,,而那就是復(fù)雜結(jié)構(gòu),。這就是我從化學(xué)學(xué)到的教訓(xùn)之一。我接受了復(fù)雜性,,我能夠理性地看待這種復(fù)雜性,。 ????聽起來(lái)也像是對(duì)政客和商業(yè)領(lǐng)袖的忠告。 ????沒(méi)錯(cuò),,我很想讓他們?cè)僦販匾幌禄瘜W(xué)課,。 |
????What else have you learned from being a chemist? ????One thing that chemistry has taught me is that things are complex and you must come to terms with complexity. Even as my mind wants simplicity -- it wants things classified as good or bad -- the world is complex and the solutions to problems, social problems, are not going to be not easy. We're in an election year and everything in those election commercials, it doesn't matter what party, is inclined to simplify a complex world. ????But I think we should resist oversimplification of everything -- human behavior, political solutions, social systems. I think chemistry keeps me aware of that because you need complicated. Why do we need 70 million molecules? Because the human body is complicated and 92 elements, that's very nice. But it's not the elements that matter, it's what you can build from them, and what you build from them is complex structures. That, to me, is one of the lessons of chemistry. And I'm at peace -- I'm at reasonable peace with that. ????That sounds like a lesson for politicians and business leaders as well. ????Yes, I'd love to get them back in chemistry class. |
